The Fiber Artists of Baltimore began in October of 2000 when Dorothy Fix sent out an invitation to local fiber artists to begin a new professional fiber art group. Ten people answered the invitation and Fiber Artists of Baltimore was on its way. Members of FAB work in a variety of fiber media including but not limited to quilting, weaving, book making, embroidery, three dimensional art, and wearable art. The group meets on a monthly basis to discuss business and to conduct a critique session. FAB's first group show was held at the Fleckenstein Gallery in the winter of 2000.

In 2004 FAB held three shows: Works by Members of FAB at the Howard County Arts Center, Ellicott City, MD; Layers, a Themed Exhibit at Carroll County Community College, Westminster, MD; and again at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, Baltimore, MD.

Two more shows in 2005 were added to the FAB resume: Towson Commons Art Gallery, Towson University, Towson, MD and Gallery M.I.M., Baltimore, Maryland.

January of 2007 saw another FAB show at the Slayton House Gallery in Columbia, Maryland.

The mission of FAB is to foster a community of fiber artists who will support and encourage the creative and professional growth of its members. Members are encouraged to participate in local, regional, national, and international exhibitions. Artistic development as individuals and as a group is encouraged and supported by sharing and feedback.
